Since, most of the children are growing up in a home packed of devices; it is hard to keep kids away from these devices such as smartphone, tablet, and laptop and so on. Though most of the people along with parents think that, these devices with powerful technological integrations are harmful for child’s mind and body, but the opposite also can be true if they can use these devices under elder persons’ supervision. Beside the harmful impacts of smartphone on child development, positive ones can be practiced which can eliminate the negative ones. Negative impacts:

Sleep deficiency:

Any device that has screen and emits blue light, have a tendency to disturb our physical clock. Our body relies on that clock to regulate our bedtime. But when a person use those devise too late or after evening, our eyes are exposed to the blue light which sends a signal to our brain that its daylight and time to keep awake. This is how excessive use of smartphone can cause sleep deprivation to the kids.

Sedentary and obesity:

Any device with screen demands more sitting time in order to pay attention to it. Children are naturally energetic and have a tendency to jump, run, climb, play and dance, which helps them to develop a healthy physical condition.  But once they are introduced to smartphone, they occupy most of their time on it and stops doing those activities and pass most of their time by sitting alone on the couch. This leads them to Sedentary and obesity- a terrifying impact of smartphone on child development.

Eye discomfort:

Though there is no evidence of any permanent damage of eyes due to excessive electronic screen devices, but it has lot more negative impact on eyes causing eye discomfort. Children, who spend more time on smartphone, come up with some symptoms of eye discomfort which is called the ‘digital eye strain’.

Shortened attention spans:

Before early 90’s it was thought that less than 5% children are suffering from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). But the recent study shows that, this figure have been rising since last two decades when the technological revolution presented a lot of new electronic devices and smartphones. Now the figure has ballooned up to 11%. The fast growth probably has to do with sociological deviations, counting how children use the internet and mobile devices for both educational and leisurely purposes. It also causes higher level of anxiety and depression.

They may inhibit the development of social skills:

There are not enough studies and researches regarding whether more smartphone use negatively affects child’s social skill or not, but it is not said that it has no impact. The more children spend time on smartphone the less they interact face to face with family and friends. Overuse of smartphone causes numbness and decreases the ability to read human emotion.

Higher levels of anxiety and depression

Kids who are old enough to use smartphone or tablets to connect with friends in social media, can be affected negatively what they see and do in social media. The virtual world makes them to show off more rather than being original and authentic. They tend to stay online every hour and every day and they compare themselves with others. They subconsciously fall in a competition of getting more like or comments. Recent study shows that, children who spend too much time in social media and smartphone are less likely to have less self-esteem and suffers from anxiety, poor sleep.

Smartphones have basically altered the world as we recognize it, and even as grownups, we must to be cautious with how we practice them. Kids, conversely, are far more vulnerable to undergoing more harm. Fathers and mothers should teach themselves on top does connected to children and mobile device use, stay aware of their children’s behaviors and toil with them catch the accurate steadiness in using them. They should be warned about the negative impacts of smartphone on child development.
